Il Gran Ristoro

Il Gran Ristoro has been serving quick lunches for 80 years. Beneath the arcades of Genoa's port, passersby, tourists, and regulars flock there for a panino. The line stretches out but moves quickly, and while waiting, you can choose from the 150 ingredients on display to create your own panini. Fine cured meats, local cheeses, pesto alla genovese, and other sometimes intriguing Ligurian specialties fill a mouthwatering display case. If you are unsure, Stefano Boggiano, the owner for the past 40 years, will let you have a taste to help confirm your choice. Everything is tucked into a round white roll that is easy to eat on the go. This city certainly knows its finger food! And in Genoa, it is still one of the city's few historic businesses that remains open. The prized panino can be enjoyed beneath the arcades, or a few yards away at the port, overlooking the sea!

Coffee Tones. Five cafés, five shades.
These are places that are an integral part of everyday life. Encountered by chance along a path, visited every morning around the corner from home, tried out by word of mouth. We like them noisy or studious, indulgent, intimate, sometimes to be seen there and often to go unnoticed. If we come for the coffee, we sometimes come back for other things. Here is the club of the 5 cafés of the week in the French capital.
